There are a lot of rumors in the air about the Facebook phone. It’s been around 2 years since we first listened about the Facebook phone. The rumor is not confirmed but we can expect a Facebook phone next year. According to sources, Facebook is hiring hardware engineers to build a Facebook phone. It is not that Facebook is first time attempting to build a phone. In 2010 Facebook attempted to make a phone but the project had to be closed due to some complications. After that Facebook along with HTC tried to develop Facebook phone under the codename Buffy. Possibilities are that, may be, Buffy is under construction by Facebook.

Why Facebook App Can’t Be A Facebook Phone

Question is why Facebook prefers launching its own phone over fully concentrating on promoting its iOS, Android and other mobile platform applications. Well the answer to this question is Facebook wants to be independent. Apple and Google had few issues with Facebook which hold these two mobile OS giants from fully integrating Facebook app in their mobile OS.

This question might have hit your mind when you first thought of a Facebook phone. Facebook is notorious for selling users information, hackable APIs and unprotected users’ data. If you bought a Facebook phone then probably it could mean that all your photos, contacts, files and everything in your phone is vulnerable to hack attacks or ready to be sold. So it would be a great risk to trust a Facebook phone.

Is It Sensible For A Social Network Giant To Release A Mobile Phone

Software and hardware are two different things. A software industry is different from a hardware industry. From past events we have learned that it has been hard for a software giant to dive into the hardware business and challenge hardware giants. Debugging software and understanding the complexity of carrier deals, radio chipsets and mobile processors are two different activities. Before Facebook joins the lucrative business of smartphones it should ask itself few questions. Is this going to be a serious mobile project? Are they going to keep it alive? Do they have enough potential to promote a HARDWARE product?

Should Facebook Manufacture Its Own Hardware?

It will be very hard for Facebook to manufacture its mobile phone’s hardware because Facebook is a software company and not a hardware manufacturer. Also Facebook haven’t proved itself to be a good hardware manufacturer. Facebook should adopt Google’s strategy and should not manufacture the hardware for the Facebook mobile itself.
