2D or 3D Animation: Which of the Two has Better Opportunities?

The world of animation has been dazzling and enticing right since its birth. Its steep evolution has certainly opened the doors of rare creations, which our ancestors before a decade must not have even imagined. At present, it seems that there is a cut-to-cut race between 2D and 3D when it comes to choosing a career opportunity. On the surface, it seems that 3D will be the future of this art world. However, upon analyzing the two fields profoundly, one gets to face the reality that 2D is not at all lagging behind. Although the technological advancements have given much boost to 3D artwork, it has certainly failed to throw the 2D demand totally from the animation market.

The Choice Depends On Your Goals to be pursued!

2D or 3D Animation: Which of the Two has Better Opportunities?
As a matter of fact, both 2D and 3D have a lot of career scope. So, do not be under the impression that 2D is about the die in the market. To beat your confusion while selecting from the two, try to focus on what you want pursue. For example, if your interest is in movies, then 3D is much more in demand these days. Similarly, if you love to be in the field of TV, 2D wins here because a majority of the TV programs depend on 2D animation. Further, if your inclination is towards the field of education, 2D again dominates here, as the educational projects do not have that high budget for affording 3D efforts.

The Choice Depends Upon Identifying the Differences Between the Two!

Also known classical or cel animation, two-dimensional animation focuses more on framing and drawing to form a motion. This is why the 2D animators utilize paper and boards that are then set in a motion at the required speed to create an animation. Nowadays, the animators use computerized programs such as Flash and Animaker to create such sequences of images, through which they scan their drawings and then layer and time them for showing characters in motion with a flat appearance. But did you know that 2D forms the basis of 3D animation?
Also known as computer generated imagery, three-dimensional animation is ideal for showing more realistic images in motion by adding more depth. The 3D animators, therefore, not only pay attention to drawing and framing, but also focus on character design, modeling, lighting, texturing, and rendering. They do so with the help of computer programs such as Maya, ZBrush, and Motion Builder wherein virtual cameras and highly advanced drawing tools are used to show real 3D objects with real effects – something that 2D cannot show. Due to this, 3D animation dominates the fields of films, games, and advertising.
However, 3D animation skills are much more difficult to grasp and are also much more expensive than the 2D skills. So, you can now decide which of the two is better for you depending on complexity and price involved in learning.  Animation has lots of scope for the creative people. All that you need to have is patience, creativity, and passion for a successful animation career.
